Nancy and I have been having fun. Friday she had an appointment with her optometrist and then we had lunch at China Cafe buffet with Bobbe and Yvonne. We spent two hours eating.
To work off all that food, Saturday we went to Fort Worth. We stopped at Cokesbury where I bought Christan Apologetics and Nancy bought me the book The New Creation: John Wesley's Theology Today by Theodore Runyan. I haven't read it yet but I doubt that it supports creation science. We then went to the Stock Show and I have never seen so many people, animals and especially fancy cowboy boots. One woman had an ankle bracelet on one of her boots. We started in the goat show arena where goats were being walked in the crowded aisles past us going to the show arena. The next barn had more rabbits than I have ever seen in one place. I didn't know how varied rabbits can be in shape and color.
The exhibit hall was even more crowded with vendors of every kind. Nancy had to buy some Egyptian cotton sheets made in China because they were the color she has been looking for for some time. We came back through the cattle barn and about 90% were black. I saw three Herefords and a couple of white or gray cows. One man was washing his cow and Nancy wondered if they had warm water, (it was cold) and I saw a large water heater there so they have warm water.
Yesterday we went to Waples UMC where the preacher's wife had one of her students sing a medley of hymns about prayer. She had a wonderful voice. We also had a great sermon by Al Munger.
Today the weather has turned beautiful. I was cold at the Stock Show.

BEAUTIFUL DAY
Today was so pretty that we ate lunch on the porch in 77 degrees. No bugs. Also no birds. Couldn't even see a buzzard on the wing. Nancy is a great cook. I bought a box of liquid center chocolate mix and Nancy made the muffins that were fantastic to a chocoholic. I don't know whether walking to the mail box will be enough exercise for that kind of dessert or not.
We went in Tuesday to buy a new hot water heater. Lowes web site says if you order one day it will be installed the next. Turns out that they contract the labor to plumbers and they are working on emergencies, so the last promise we have is for tomorrow morning. Hope it works out. I am looking at a water filter and a method of preventing the lime build-up in the heater. I can't find anyone that has installed Easy Water to know whether it will work or not. The filter says it won't remove lime. The Lowes salesman claims it works for him on his ranch. The main buildup of lime is in the water heater.
Today I wrote my column, posted to my creation blog, wrote the minutes of last night's church council meeting and still got a short nap. My accountant, Nancy, has been working on taxes as well as building the improvements to the plastic storage cabinets on the back porch. She is good with a drill, sawing boards and driving nails and screws plus painting. She wanted to be an architect when she was in high school. Would have made a good one. She said the counselor kept telling her that all the positions she would do well at were only for men. She also wanted to be a telephone operator where they plugged the phones in to a big board. Didn't get to do that either. Being good at math she ended up in bookkeeping jobs.

GREAT WEEKEND
Kathy came to visit this weekend. The weather cooperated and we enjoyed her visit. Saturday we ate at Staghorn with Sue. They had the specialty of the house the chicken-fried steak that won recognition by Texas Monthly a few years ago. Sue is feeling rough from the chemo and radiation but looks great as a Mary Kay gal should look. Kathy planned to come to church with us but had to leave early to go home to prepare her home for guests.
Today I finished posting all of the clergy members in my address book and sent an email to them trying to educate them on creation science. I will be joining them at the annual conference this year as a lay member from CP.

GOD'S BLESSINGS
This morning about 3 I heard the thunder and saw lightning and it has been raining off and on all day. Tonight the rain guage showed 1.3" with the promise of snow tonight.
I had an interesting dream last night about one of my engineering friends arguing with doctors about how to diagose his cancer with ongoing discussions in the dream about engineers questioning doctors. Weird dream.
And then tonight I had a phone call from the high school phyics prof who sponsored the 2008 resolution for the Methodist church to support only the teaching of evolution. He had read my resolution this year on the comment string on a posting by a scientist arguing that Methodists are losing young people because they don't support evolution teaching. The first comments all disagreed with the idea and I commented and then posted my resolution. He called to ask if I had other resolutions. We discussed our disagreements on evolution/creation and parted friends.

CATCHING UP
I can't believe it has been almost a month since my last post. It is now 2012 and I have been trying to use my new laptop. It is a learning curve. Don't know if it is due to Windows 7 or the new laptop.
We are back in Cross Plains after spending two weeks in Granbury for the Holidays where we were able to meet with most of our families. Nancy got to see all of her children and grandchildren and I got to visit with mine from FW and Weatherford and Jim, Mandi and their three kids came up to visit after Christmas for 3 days and learn a little about Granbury. I missed seeing Kathy and her other kids. Sent gifts back by Jim who forgot to bring Kathy's gifts. We may need to make a trip to SA.
We have been attending church at Waples UMC for last three Sundays and Christmas Eve service. Finally got to meet the pastor's wife, who teaches music in Arlington and had a number of her students perform at services. Some really great music.
I am reviewing THE NEW COOL, a book about high school students competing in the national robotics contest. I bought a copy and sent it to Jim because that is what he is teaching at his school.
Nancy and I have both been keeping up with relatives on Facebook although I really don't like it. But the kids do.
More later.
